Back A Brief Introduction

A+ Educational Services offers a variety of High School as well as College courses for credit through an Independent Study Program accredited through a major university to students in the Los Angeles area. This program is a great way to make up a high school course, supplement your high school's course offerings, or get a jump-start on college. Parents who desire to homeschool their children will quickly discover that this program is a great way to achieve their goals.
The Independent Study Program is a very flexible approach to education. As a student in the Independent Study Program, you decide when to enroll, how to pace your study, and when to take your examinations. You receive personal attention and guidance through a one-on-one relationship with your instructor.
When you register for courses with us, we take care of the application process, all books and necessary course materials, test administration, transcripts, etc. We also provide you with all instruction and tutoring necessary to successfully complete the course.

Back Benefits

Graduate on Time

The courses you need to graduate on time are often offered only once every two semesters. Unless they have planned their curriculum carefully in advance, students often find themselves in a situation where their school does not offer the course they need to graduate until next year. With Independent Study Program high school courses, you can find the courses you need to graduate on time.

Earn an Honors Diploma

For many high school students, earning an honors diploma is a goal, but some high schools do not offer all the courses students need to earn one. If earning an honors diploma is your goal, Independent Study Program high school courses can help you.

Get a Jump Start on College

Students who have advanced placement (AP) programs in their high schools have long benefited from programs that enable them to earn college credit in high school. Our Independent Study Program gives students who go to a high school that doesn't have an AP program the same opportunity. Students can enroll in our program at any time, even during the summer.
Taking advanced courses that award credit toward both a high school diploma and a college degree can be a perfect solution if you want to get a jump-start on college. If you are an advanced student, taking these courses can give you an edge in attaining your college goals. Extra credits can help make it possible for you to graduate in three or four years instead of five or six, drastically reducing the time spent studying as well as the amount of your tuition. Also, taking college courses in high school will increase your confidence in your ability to do college-level work.

Home-schooling

Independent Study Program high school courses guarantee a quality education for home-schooled students. Our program is designed to help self-directed, home-schooled students flourish. Home-schooling families will find that our curriculum matches their needs.

Rounding Out the Educational Program of an Alternative School

Students who attend alternative schools get an education that's designed to meet their needs and abilities. Sometimes, however, these students may find they need certain courses to meet college entrance requirements. Through us, these students can get the courses they need without sacrificing the educational route they have chosen.

Back Frequently Asked Questions

How do Independent Study Program courses work?
When you enroll in a course, you receive a learning guide that provides discussion, explanations, and assignments. It guides you through the course as a classroom instructor would. It contains written assignments that you must complete and send or bring to our office. When we receive your assignment, we record its receipt and mail it to your instructor. The instructor grades the assignment and sends it back to us with the grade and comments. We record the grade and then mail the assignment back to you.
Can I submit more than one assignment at a time?
In order that you may benefit from your instructor's comments, we generally require that you submit only one written assignment at a time.
How long does it take to complete an Independent Study Program course?
Since our courses are designed to cover a full semester of material, it normally takes 12 to 18 weeks to complete a course.
Can I talk to my instructor?
Definitely! Having direct contact with your instructor in person, by telephone or e-mail makes taking a course and learning the material a lot easier. You'll be able to ask questions about the lessons and get direct feedback on your progress in the course.
The advantage of taking our Independent Study Program course, as opposed to other strictly "distance learning" courses, is that we never leave you to struggle with material on your own. In our experience, we have learned that this can make a difference between success and failure.
Do I have to take the courses during the school year?
The Independent Study Program does not operate on a semester schedule. Students can enroll in courses whenever they choose, even during the summer.
How do I take my exams?
You may arrange to take an exam after you have submitted all of the written assignments preceding the exam. Most courses contain at least two exams, a midterm and a final. We can arrange either: 1) for you to take your exams at our Malibu, California location, under the supervision of a credentialed teacher, or 2) at your local high school under the supervision of a counselor.
I'm graduating this semester. Will I be able to get my grade in time?
In order to help you meet your graduation deadlines and other schedules at any time during the year, we ask that you complete the course (including all exams) at least three weeks before you need your grade. Our peak period is from March through May. Be sure to allow sufficient time for the processing of your lessons and examinations.
When do I get my final grade?
When you have completed the course (all lessons and exams) and the instructor has calculated and sent us a final grade report, you will receive a grade notification in the mail.
Do you automatically send a final grade notification to my high school?
Yes, we can send an official report of high school credit directly to your school, but you must ensure that your counselor has included an ETS code number on your enrollment application.
How long do I have to complete my course?
You have one full year from the date of your enrollment to complete your course.
What if I can't complete my course in a year?
You are entitled to two extensions--except where noted in course descriptions-of six months each for a nonrefundable fee of $60 per high school course or $60 per university credit hour, per extension.
Can I transfer to another course?
Yes. You can transfer an enrollment once. Enrollment fees may be transferred from one Independent Study Program course to another during the first 60 days of enrollment.
Can I get a refund?
If you withdraw from a course within 30 days of your enrollment date, we will refund the course fee, less $100 administrative fee. If you withdraw from a university course, we will refund the course fee, less $150. No refunds will be given after 30 days.
I have some questions about the Independent Study Program. Who do I call?
You can contact us during regular business hours, Pacific Standard Time, at
1(800) 700-2758 or use our convenient Order Form to request more information.
